World Class Act For Exeter

Exeter is getting a world class outdoor eduction centre.

The £5.6 million centre at Haven Banks on the canal basin is being built by Devon County Council  with cash from the sale of Exeter Airport.

It'll be run by Exeter College which is planning new courses unavailable anywhere in Devon at present.

The new centre, due to be completed by spring 2013, replaces the outdated facilities on the site.

At the moment the site is visited by around 25,000 young people a year taking courses  in activities like sailing, windsurfacing, climbing and team building.

The college plans to expand the role of the new centre, so that, as well as those on college courses, it will be used by residents, businesses and schools.
