BUCKINGHAM TRAVELLERS UPDATE

Police say they had to issue papers directing the occupants of 28 caravans and vehicles to leave their unauthorised spot in Buckingham.

Officers say it's really unusual to have to use those powers on private land at Osier Way, and at the Swan Business Park - but it came after reports of disorder, assault, theft and intimidation.

"Officers have issued a direction to leave the land on Osier Way and Swan Business Park in accordance with Section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 to a number of occupants of approx. 28 caravans and vehicles.

We believed occupants of the vehicles had entered this land as trespassers, with a common purpose to reside on the land and all reasonable steps had been taken on behalf of the person entitled to possession of that land to ask them to leave.

It is very unusual for us to have a requirement to use these powers on private land but on this occasion despite issuing a Code of Conduct to those present we continued to receive a number of reports of associated disorder, assault, thefts, intimidation and significant disruption to local businesses.

Unauthorised caravans and vehicles have now vacated the site as requested and we remain in locality at this time.Thank you for your patience."
