Police in Luton are appealing for witnesses after a 13 year-old girl's suffered a sexual assault in the town.

Between 5.30pm and 6pm on Thursday October 30, the youngster was walking along Farm Green in Luton when she was grabbed from behind by the offender who dragged her to the floor. The attacker then straddled the victim and punched her to the legs as he removed her jeans. It was only when a car door slammed nearby that the offender stopped the attack and ran away towards Farley Farm Road.

The offender is described as being either a mixed race or Asian man, 20-30 years old, 5ft 9ins tall, slender build, clean shaven and with a mark or scar in the middle of his right cheek. The offender was wearing a complete black Adidas tracksuit with white stripes.

Detective Constable Melanie Knight, who is investigating the incident, is keen to hear form anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the offender fleeing along Farley Farm Road.

DC Knight said:

"This was a terrifying experience for the victim who genuinely feared that she would be seriously assaulted by the offender. If it had not been for a car door slamming then this could have been a far more serious offence.

I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time or anyone who has any information in relation to this incident to contact Bedfordshire Police. Even the smallest piece of information could help us with our enquiries."
