Police say the pedestrian involved in Tuesday's crash along the A41 between Tring and Berkhamsted has died.
The collision occurred on the southbound carriageway just after 1.55pm yesterday (Tuesday, July 21) and involved a Mitsubishi Canter transporter and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a man aged in his early 30s, suffered serious head injuries and passed away at the scene.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was uninjured.
The southbound carriageway was closed while emergency services worked at the scene and the northbound carriageway was also closed for a short time to allow the air ambulance to attend.
PC Jackie Lister, who is investigating, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very difficult time.
“We are currently working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and I am appealing for any witnesses to get in contact. I would also like to hear from anyone with any other information about what happened.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit via the Hertfordshire Constabulary non-emergency number 101.
