Police say their investigation into the death of a woman in Luton has turned into a murder inquiry.
Police was called by the ambulance service shortly after 11.30pm to a property in Overstone Road, Luton, where a woman had suffered serious injuries.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit have now launched a murder investigation.
The area remains cordoned off to allow further enquiries to take place.
Detective Chief Inspector Adam Gallop, senior investigating officer, said: "We are treating the woman's death as murder and it's therefore of the utmost importance that anyone with information that could help our investigation gets in touch immediately.
"We are following a number of lines of inquiry and are keeping an open mind as to what led to this tragic incident."
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 quoting Op Humboldt.
