A feisty pensioner's beaten a mugger to the floor with her walking stick in Gamlingay.

The woman, who is in her 70's, was attacked from behind yesterday afternoon (22/06) by a man who tried to grab her handbag.

She struggled with the man and hit him a number of times with her stick causing him to fall to the floor, but he still managed to grab her mobile phone and some money from her bag before running away.

Police say the victim has luckily been left shaken but uninjured.

The suspect is described as white, of tanned appearance, in his 20s, with short cropped dark hair, wearing a dark blue/grey fleece or jacket with the hood pulled up.

Police are also keen for any witnesses to a collision which occurred shortly after the robbery.

It involved a silver Vauxhall Vectra which was seen repeatedly driving around the area prior to the robbery.
