Five prison staff have been injured during three disturbances at Bedford Jail.
The Prison Officers Association's told Heart five prison staff were taken to hospital after three disturbances over the weekend; twice on Saturday and once more on Sunday morning.
The Ministry of Justice says the Tornado Riot Squad were not needed to quell the disturbances.
Prisons Minister Rory Stewart said
"We do not tolerate violence against our staff - that's why only this week we doubled sentences for those who assault them and why we will seek the prosecution of all those found to be involved in this incident.
It's why we've recruited 3,500 additional officers and are spending an extra £40m on safety, security and the fabric of the prison estate - including rolling out body worn cameras, 'police-style' handcuffs and restraints, and trialling PAVA incapacitant spray.
We need to reduce violence in our prisons - I am confident we will achieve that aim through taking this decisive action and working constructively with all parties moving forward"
