10,000 swim for free
Over half of under 16's in Gloucester have now signed up to the Government's free swimming scheme.
That is 8,500 youngsters going to GL1 for free sessions, along with 1500 over 60's.
But there is concern over the future of the scheme that launched in June 2009.
Although Government funding will continue after the summer, there is a shortfall of around £40,000 and so far only half that figure has been found through commercial partners.
Heart has been finding out more about the scheme from Steve Elway, Chief Exec of the Aspire sports & Cultural trust, which runs GL1:
The Trust are now looking for local firms and groups to help with funding, they can contact Steve Elway on 01452 396601 or email chiefexec@aspiretrust.org.uk.
