Forest Green Rovers are hoping to get a decision on their new stadium in the next few months.
If approved it would be the world's first football stadium made entirely of wood.
The club are hoping to build on land next to J13 of the M5.
Chairman Dale Vince told Heart:
''75 percent of the carbon footprint of sports stadia for their entire lifetime comes from the materials they're made from, not from the operational costs.
''By using wood we'll have the lowest carbon footprint stadium built anywhere in the world.
''I really hope we get to build it one day.''
