Flames have been seen lighting up the early evening sky in Gloucester, as a fire took hold at a disused warehouse near the city's quays.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue says it received a call at about 4.45pm about the fire at the derelict building opposite Pizza Hut.

Police responded by closing St. Ann Way due to the smoke.

Six fire crews from places like Cheltenham, Stroud and Gloucester were used, and after 6pm, were in a ''damping down'' phase.

A fire service spokeswoman also told Heart that the roof of the building had partially collapsed and could collapse further, but there were no injuries.

She also said it was too early to say if the cause was suspicious or not.

An investigation is now due to take place.
