Seven Vehicle Crash On M5

Police are appealing for witnesses to a seven vehicle collision that closed the M5 for more than seven hours on Saturday.

It happened just before 2pm southbound near Michaelwood services and involved two HGVs and five cars.

A 23-year-old Coventry man who was driving one of the cars was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious head injuries. He is currently in a critical condition.

A 19-year-old woman who was a passenger in the same car was also taken to Southmead Hospital with pelvic injuries and remains in a serious condition.

14 others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police want to speak to any witnesses who have not yet contacted them, including at least one person who was stood on the nearby footbridge and witnessed the entire incident.
