A man has been attacked in his own home during a burglary in Gloucester.

It happened in the early hours of Thursday morning in Finlay Road.

The victim, a 42 year-old-man, disturbed the offenders in his flat at around 1am and was then assaulted.

He was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where he remains with serious but not life threatening injuries.

DC Nikki Witney of Gloucester Police said:

“We are now appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area between 1am and 2.45am to come forward. We believe there were at least three men involved and that they may have had a stolen bike from the property with them.

“While we know that the local community will be concerned about this incident we would like to reassure people this type of crime is very rare and that we are doing everything we can to apprehend those responsible.

“House to house enquiries have been conducted and forensic investigations are continuing. We would like to thank residents in the area for their assistance so far and would now urge anyone with information who hasn’t spoken to us to get in contact.”
