A man from Bushey who followed a schoolgirl around shops in the town, and touched her inappropriately has been jailed for six months.
Salim Ahamad, 22, of High Road, Bushey, pleaded guilty to sexual assault at St Albans Magistrates Court on Tuesday, February 16.
Police were alerted after the 14 year old victim told her grandmother what had happened.
Officers secured CCTV of the offender and they were able to quickly identify Ahamad, which led to his arrest.
Hertsmere Chief Inspector Tannis Perks said:
"This was a frightening and upsetting incident against a young girl.
Officers acted swiftly to secure CCTV of the offender, identify him and then quickly arrest him, which has resulted in him being given a custodial sentence by the courts.
Understandably, it can be difficult for a victim of a sexual offence to report it to the police. Whilst Hertfordshire Constabulary does have a dedicated team of trained specialist staff who investigate these offences, victims may still wish to contact another agency first."
There are other options available to victims of such crimes.
These include the Sunflower Centre 08 088 088 088 (Monday to Friday 10am to 10pm) - or visit: www.hertssunflower.org.
