St Albans 20mph zone

Streets around St Albans' cathedral are going to have their speed limits cut to 20mph to improve safety for walkers and cyclists.
Local people are going to be asked their views on plans to change the limit in a consultation that is due to start before the end of May 2011. If locals approve, things could change as soon as April 2012.
Rupert Thacker from Hertfordshire Highways has been telling Heart: "There are lots of vulnerable road users - walking and cycling around the area. The intention of introducing the twenty limit would be to try and make sure all vehicles are driving at that lower speed, which might encourage more people to cycle and walk."
