A teenage girl has been grabbed by a man in Harpenden High Street.

At around 8.50pm the victim, a 16 year old girl, was waiting outside Browns hairdressers, High street, when she was approached by a man who tried to make conversation with her before he grabbed her by the wrist. She managed to get away and the man drove off in a dark blue or black BMW.

The man is described as mixed race, in his early to mid-20s, 6ft tall and of a medium build. He was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, a dark coloured jacket and either the hood up or wearing a beanie hat.

DC Paul Cullinan is investigating and said: "Understandably the girl has been left shaken by what happened but thankfully she was not injured. I appreciate that incidents of this nature may cause concern within the community and I would like to reassure you we believe that this was an isolated incident.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and either saw what happened or saw a car in the area in suspicious circumstances."

Anyone with any information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact the Herts Police non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number F2/15/277. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
