80 year-old Hemel woman sexually attacked

Police in Hemel Hempstead have launched an investigation after an elderly woman was sexually assaulted in the town.

Detectives say she was walking along Cambrian Way at about 4.50pm on Friday (Sept. 2nd), when she was approached from behind by a man.

The victim walked from Belgate Shops towards the Link Road, the man grabbed the woman and touched her in an inappropriate manner and then ran from the scene along Cambrian way  back towards the shops.

Although the woman was shaken following the incident she was thankfully not injured.

The man was described as black, in his thirties or forties and around 5ft 3ins tall. He was reported to be wearing a navy blue or black waterproof jacket and jeans. It was also reported that the offender spoke in a foreign accent.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Fraser Wylie, said: “We are doing everything we can to identify the person responsible for this crime. I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone who feels they may recognise the man described to get in contact.”

He continued: “In particular, I would also like to speak to a boy of around 12-13 years of age who was reported to have walked past the woman along Cambrian Way, heading in the direction of Link Road just before the incident. The boy was described as having blonde hair. I would like to stress that this boy is not in any trouble at all, we are just keen to speak to him to see if he can help with our enquiries.”
