Attempted Bank Fraud

Police have released a photo of a woman they want to speak to in connection with an attempted fraud at a bank in Hemel Hempstead.

Officers are investigating an incident where an offender went into the bank Santander in The Marlowes and attempted to transfer a large amount of money out of another person’s bank account.
 
They used a fake bank card in the name of her victim in order attempt the transaction, but while staff were making checks the offender left the bank, walking towards Market Square.
 
The victim, a 76-year-old woman from Iver in Buckinghamshire, did not lose any money as a result of the attempted fraud, just before 11.45am on Tuesday 26 March 2013.
 
Police investigating the incident have released an image (right) of a person they would like to speak to as part of the investigation.
 
PC Matt Cann, from the Hemel Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was a brazen attempt to take many thousands of pounds out of the victim’s account – but fortunately it was not been successful.
 
“We believe the pictured woman may have information that is vital to our investigation and we would like to trace her as a matter of priority. If this is you, or if you recognise this person, please get in touch as soon as possible.”
