The sister of a 21 year old stabbed to death on a night out in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, has told Heart the 14 year minimum sentence given to his killer isn't enough.
Darren McGrath from Essex Mead in Hemel Hempstead pleaded guilty to the murder of Billy Dove (right) in November 2011 and was sentenced to life on Friday 29 June 2012. He was told he will serve at least 14 years behind bars.
Billy had been visiting pubs with friends after being at a fireworks party.
Jodie, 33, told Heart the family were hoping he would get around 18 years in prison but because he was only seventeen years old there is a limit on how long he could be sentenced for.
She now wants the law to change:
"The way I see it, it should be a life for a life, something has to be done to get the laws changed because we're the ones that are live a life sentence"
Jodie says they now want to do something positive and try to get knives and guns off the streets.
The family have set up the Billy Dove Memorial Fund and have so far raised £8,000 by selling wristbands.
They are now organising Billy's Day that will take place in August 2012, and will also raise money for his fund.
