The Fight To Save Watford Allotments Will Go On

The Secretary of States has approved the building of a new Health Campus on allotments in West Watford.

Sara Trebar from the group Save Farm Terrace told Heart she's devastated.

The allotment is a place her and her three young children go regularly- they can easily walk there and she uses the land to teach them about growing their own food.

As well as a Health Campus the land will be used for new housing

Sara says:

"To build 600 more flats and houses in this terribly congested area is just unthinkable and to do it on top of allotments is crazy it's completely immoral"

But Watford Mayor Dorothy Thornhill was pleased with the decision by Eric Pickles.

She told Heart it’s a no-brainer:

"We regret having to use the allotments but in the end I remain convinced that it is the right thing to do and I would rather be facing a protest about the loss of allotment land rather than a protest about the loss of a hospital"

Mrs. Trebar says the fight will continue- they've called an emergency meeting where they will discuss calling for a judicial review and further protests on the allotment site.
