Police are appealing for witnesses after a grandmother's house in Bushey was deliberately set on fire.

A grandmother, aged in her late eighties, is in hospital after an arsonist targeted her home in Bushey by mistake.

The elderly woman woke up at around midnight on Friday 20 September to find her maisonette in Forest Walk in flames.

She was rescued by Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue and was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

A 31-year-old man from the town has been arrested on suspicion of arson and bailed.

Detective Constable Martin Macnish said: "We believe the offender or offenders were trying to target a specific person but got the wrong address.

"Although we have arrested a man on suspicion of arson, we are appealing for anyone to come forward who saw anything suspicious around the time of the fire or knows who may be responsible.

"The woman is a mother and a grandmother and we will do everything we can to find the person or persons responsible for this deliberate fire, which may have had far more serious consequences."
