A man has died after being hit by a car on the A2 near Canterbury.

Police say two men were reported to have crossed the carriageway before one of them was involved in the collision on the coastbound stretch close to Dunkirk.

It happened just before midnight last night (Wednesday 23 January). The car involved did stop and remained at the scene.

Officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service went to the scene and the man was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries but later died.

Police are appealing for any witnesses and are urging the second pedestrian to get in contact with them.The victim’s next of kin has been informed and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Officers are carrying out enquiries to locate the second pedestrian.
