A post mortem has revealed a 14 year-old Sea Cadet from Kent died from severe chest injuries after falling from a training ship.

Jonathan Martin from Shadoxhurst in Ashford was taking part in celebrations in Hampshire to mark 150 years of the Sea Cadets when he fell from the rigging into the water on Sunday night (2nd May).

He was rescued by a lifeboat and taken to hospital by helicopter but was pronounced dead.

His family said in a statement: "Jonathan was a wonderful son and grandson who tragically died whilst doing something that he loved. He was a popular young man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.''
