Distinctive bits of mayoral regalia have been taken from a former mayor's house in Iden Green, near Cranbrook.

The theft happened on 24 January between 5.45 and 10.45pm.

A medal awarded to David Kirby, a past mayor of Tunbridge Wells, and a mayoress’ medal were among the items taken.  The medals show the Borough coat of arms (pictured below).  One is on a blue ribbon and the other on a chain; both also have an engraved piece marking the year of office, 1987 –1988.

Also taken were an MBE awarded to Mr Kirby, an engraved Tissot watch and a station style oak clock with the word ‘Crowborough’ on the face.

Detective Constable Graham Norman said:

‘The items taken are of great sentimental importance rather than high monetary value and of little use to anyone else.  If anyone knows the whereabouts of the medals or is able to provide information about the incident I would be pleased to hear from them.’

Anyone with information about this can contact Kent Police on 01732 379217 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
