Man In Custody After Smuggling 60 Guns Into Kent

A 37-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing before Margate Magistrates. charged with illegally importing firearms.
Robert Keogh from Dublin did not indicate a plea during the hearing today according to a court spokeswoman.
Keogh's Volkswagen Passat was stopped as it arrived from Calais on Friday (2/8) where officers found a Sig Sauer P226 blank firing handgun with a barrel converted to fire live ammunition.
Subsequent searches found another 59 firearms concealed inside the car's bodywork, according to the National Crime Agency.
The find is believed to be the largest seizure of lethal purpose weapons at a port in the UK
The case has been sent for trial at Canterbury Crown court with a preliminary hearing to be held on September 2nd.
