A man from East Sussex who stole his father's car and then drove it at police before swerving at the last minute has been jailed for 18 months.
Officers had gone to an address in Evelyn Clark Square, Forest Row after receiving a report that Chris Hillman had stolen the Ford Focus from his dad's home in Uckfield on Tuesday 1 January.
As they were getting out of their patrol car, Hillman accelerated towards them in the stolen vehicle but swerved to avoid contact at the last moment. He then made off along Hartfield and reached speeds of 95mph before police lost sight of him.
After carrying out a search of the area, the vehicle was found crashed and abandoned in a lane leading towards Ashdown House School. He was later arrested and charged with the following offences:
Aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving;
Driving while disqualified;
Driving without insurance;
Breach of a restraining order;
Breach of a non-molestation order.
The 29-year-old, unemployed, of Tallwood Road, Horam, pleaded guilty to all five offences and was sentenced to a total of 18 months’ imprisonment. and disqualified from driving for 33 months.
