A man who admitted raping a child on multiple occasions has been jailed for 18 years.

Gary Crook, 37, of High Street in Hartley, East Sussex, carried out the attacks between 2014 and 2016 at separate locations in Lenham and Ashford.

He was arrested on Thursday 2 June 2016 when his victim disclosed what had happened to her.

Various electronic devices were seized from his home at the time, including two mobile telephones containing hundreds of indecent images of children.

Crook pleaded guilty to eight counts of rape and a number of other sexual offences prior to his sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday 3 March 2017.

In addition to the 18-year custodial term, he will also serve an additional four years on licence under an extended sentence.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Maria Cutter said: "These were very serious crimes committed by Gary Crook, who manipulated an innocent young child into helping to fulfil his sexual desires. He will serve a long time behind bars as a result.

"I hope the outcome of this case sends a clear message to all victims of sexual offences that we will listen to you and provide you with all the necessary support as we investigate the offences that have been reported."
