Two burglars who stole thousands of pounds worth of clothing in Sittingbourne have been jailed for a total of seven years.

Anthony Walker and John Brazil smashed their way into a store on Milton High Street in the early hours of Tuesday 12 January this year.

The court heard how they set off an intruder alarm, alerting a nearby police patrol to what was happening. When officers arrived they saw 30-year-old Walker near to the shop carrying a large amount of clothing.

He then threw the clothes at the police car and ran off but was followed, caught and arrested.

CCTV showed both Walker and Brazil outside the shop before Walker was seen to enter and leave with nearly £4,000 worth of clothing. Walker was arrested nearby with Brazil being identified through the shop’s CCTV and subsequently being arrested.

Walker, 30, of Queenborough Road in Minster on Sea, was jailed for four years at Maidstone Crown Court after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary.

While John Brazil, aged 40, of Barnes Close, Faversham, was also jailed at the court for three years after pleading guilty to one count of burglary.

Walker was also charged with another burglary where it was heard that on Friday 8 January 2016 he entered a shop and he walked behind the shop counter helping himself to packets of cigarettes. He went onto threaten a security guard who had challenged him about the theft, before he made off with the items.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Neil Ireland said: "Both Brazil and Walker have shown no remorse or regard for their crimes having had numerous previous dealings with the courts and I’m pleased we have been able to bring them to justice.
‘I hope this time in jail helps them reflect and turn their lives around."
