Tributes To Gentle Giant

A 19-year-old man was remanded in custody today when he made his first appearance in court charged with murder.

Caleb White, of Cornwall Close, Maidstone, Kent, is accused of killing 21-year-old Tom Crittenden.

Police and paramedics were called to Sutton Road in Maidstone at around 2.15am on Sunday but Mr Crittenden died at the scene.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of his death to be a single stab wound.

White appeared at Maidstone Magistrates' Court, a court official said.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday.

Four other people arrested in connection with the incident - a 21-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman, an 18-year-old woman and a 28-year-old woman - have all been bailed pending further inquiries.

Yesterday Mr Crittenden's parents, Paul and Glenda Crittenden, and brother Sam Crittenden said in a statement released by police: ``Tom, our loving son, brother and grandson will be so missed by his family and close network of friends and colleagues.

``He was known as a gentle giant by everyone who knew him and he was dearly loved by everyone who knew him.''
