53. Zen Acupuncture
Chinese acupuncture originated more than 2000 years ago, and today is as popular as ever and is used to aid with all sorts of issues: from muscular pains and stress relief, to insomnia, fertility, slimming and digestion. It works focusing on the body's 12 main meridians and eight secondary meridians and the 2,000 acupuncture point to connect them. We decided to get some help with a sore muscle in our neck and shoulder and try acupuncture for the first time. Not being fans of needles we were slightly apprehensive at first, but they are so fine, you can hardly feel them going into the skin. Dr Zang at the Zen Clinic in London was quick and careful in applying them and the whole process was painless. After the application a lamp was placed over us to warm the needles and help circulation. We then relaxed for 30 minutes, letting the needles do the work. The results were truly impressive: we went in with a blocked neck and shoulder and left in no pain and being able to move normally (also aided by a deep tissue massage performed by Dr Zang). Acupuncture, depending on one's needs, does require a few follow up appointments - in our case another 3-4, but it's well worth it and we found that it worked immediately and the results have lasted. Acupuncture is available at zenclinic.org and nationwide. Our treatment cost £40 for 30 minutes.
