Oscar nominated at the age of 24, winner of a BAFTA Award and now playing the role of Daisy Buchanan in the hotly anticipated film The Great Gatsby. Take a look Carey Mulligan's amazing career in pictures.
27 year old Carey Mulligan was born in London to a hotel manager father and a lecturer mother. Mulligan loved acting from a young age but her parents weren't too keen on the idea of their daughter pursuing her dream....
Against her parents' wishes Mulligan applied in secret to three London drama schools, only to be rejected by all of them!
Mulligan wasn't be to put off easily however, and took the initiative to write to the famous screenwriter and director Julian Fellowes. She was lucky enough to be invited to a dinner for aspiring actors at Fellowes' house and this lead to her getting the opportunity to audition for the 2005 remake of Pride And Prejudice. The actress did so and bagged the role of Kitty Bennet.
Carey Mulligan clearly really enjoyed getting into her first big acting role. She said that it was easy to play Kitty Bennet because she could 'relate to all of the giggling and gossiping'.
Following her role of Kitty Bennet in Pride and Prejudice Mulligan acted on TV and worked as a waitress until she landed the role of Rose in the film The Greatest, co-starring Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon.
Carey's pivotal role came when she was chosen to play Jenny Mellor in British film An Education, co-starring Emma Thompson, Dominic Cooper and Peter Sarsgaard.
Thanks to her outstanding performance in An Education, Mulligan won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in 2010. The newly blonde actress was clearly beaming on the night and couldn't stop hugging her statuette!
Her parents might have been initially against Carey going into acting, but they clearly changed her mind when their daughter was nominated for so many awards for An Education, including a Golden Globe and an Oscar. Her mum Nano was clearly beaming with pride on the Globes red carpet!
Mulligan was much in demand after starring in An Education. Following the success of that film, she took a role in Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, starring Shia LaBeouf and Michael Douglas, who played her onscreen boyfriend and father respectively.
Carey and her co-star Shia LaBeouf fell in love on set of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and dated for just over a year, from 2009 to 2010.
Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley first worked together when they played the respective Bennett sisters Kitty and Elizabeth in the 2005 remake of Pride and Prejudice. Five years later they were reunited when they both signed up to the film version of hugely popular novel Never Let Me Go.
Carey Mulligan poses for photos with her Never Let Me Go co-stars Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield at the London premiere of the film. Mulligan was nominated and scooped several awards for her role of Kathy, including a gong at The British Independent Film Awards.
Mulligan bagged another great role in 2011 film Drive, co-starring everyone's favourite actor, the gorgeous Ryan Gosling.
2011 was a great year for the actress. After working with Ryan Gosling in Drive she starred in Shame with another hunk of the moment: Michael Fassbender. The pair clearly got on very well working together as this photo of them laughing and hugging at the premiere proves.
By this point Carey truly has become a household name and one of the most in demand British actresses. The star has also ditched her natural brunette hair for good and now sticks to short, light blonde hair.
With fame comes fashion and Mulligan is now seen on the red carpet in some truly showstopping outfits courtesy of her favourite designers: Prada, Chanel and Vionnet.
On April 20th 2012, Carey Mulligan tied the knot with singer Marcus Mumford of pop-folk band Mumford And Sons on a farm in Somerset in front of celebrity wedding guests including Sienna Miller and Colin Firth. Mulligan and Mumford used to be childhood friends but lost touch. It took them no time to fall in love and get engaged when they met up again after years of not seeing each other.
Carey was invited by the Queen at a reception for the British Film Industry at Windsor Castle. A clear sign that the actress had really made it! Mulligan kept it ladylike and regal for the occasion by wearing a simple royal blue dress.
