Love Gesture

By Naomi Berners

Love is what makes the world go round!

Love is the best feeling in the world, right?

(Apart from slipping into a nice hot bubble bath at the end of a long working day!)

There's a saying that actions speak louder than words, and when it comes to love, apparently that is scientifically true.

Although you can't beat saying those three little words and whole-heartedly meaning each of them, it's actions that trigger a deeper reaction in us.

A study from the Journal Of Social And Personal Relationships looked at various different gestures and which of them were most commonly favoured amongst the 496 adults asked.

What was noticeable was that a few of them weren't specific gestures of love, but just something that gave us that feeling of being loved.

You know, when you feel like you're glowing from the inside out? That kind of feeling.

Here are the top 6 scenarios:

1. Someone showing compassion towards you in difficult times.

2. When a child snuggles up to you.

3. When pets are happy to see you.

4. Receiving a compliment from a stranger.

5. When the sun is shining.

6. Feeling close to nature.

Whilst all of these are receptive, the last two are noticeably different by way of relying on your surroundings to give you a good feeling, rather than another person or pet.

So, if you're feeling a little bit blue and there are no strangers nearby to pay you a compliment, or your cat isn't in the mood for a cuddle, perhaps there's opportunity to head out and enjoy the great outdoors, or seek out some winter sun.

And, flip-reversing this, remember it's not all about you (sorry), but maybe dish out a compliment to someone you don't know. Who knows, it may make you feel just as good as it does them!
