McDonald's Happy Meals aren't so happy anymore...
McDonald’s might have just the sucked the happiness out of a lot kids, as they announce the removal of cheeseburgers from the US Happy Meal menu.
It’s not all bad however, as the change has of course been made for their own good, with plans to cut calories, sodium, saturated fat and added sugar from Happy Meal’s products.
In addition, chocolate milk will be replaced with water bottles and fries in the six-piece chicken McNugget Mighty Meals will be halved.
The hope is for the restaurant and their digital menus around the world to contain 600 calories or fewer by 2022.
Kids will still be able to ask for cheeseburgers or chocolate milk with their kids meal, though McDonald’s believe that taking them off of the menus will reduce how often they are ordered.
This method proved to work for fizzy drinks, as orders fell by 14% since they were taken off of the Happy Meal menu four years ago.
The US aren’t the only ones taking the healthy leap as Spain offer pineapple spears on the menu whilst China, Japan and Taiwan all sell cooked corn. Italy in addition sell a grilled chicken sandwich as part of the Happy Meal.
The changes are set to kick off in June.
