The prosecutor investigating the murder of a family from Surrey, shot dead in the French Alps, says he believes the gunman responsible has killed before.

No motive has yet been found for the murders of Saad al-Hill, his wife, mother-in-law and a French cyclist.

The shootings happened last September near Lake Annecy and investigators have struggled to find any motive. They now believe the family and a French cyclist who was also killed could have been the victims of a random shotting by a deranged gunman.

The French prosecutor has confirmed that investigators are looking for someone who has killed before and who may have psychiatric problems.

About 100 police officers in Britain and France are investigating the murders, searching France, Switzerland, Italy, the UK, Sweden and southern Spain.
