Thames Valley Police are appealing for information after an incident in Oxley Park, Milton Keynes, between 6pm and 6.30pm on Monday 17 June 2013.
An eight-year-old girl was playing in the street in Raft Way when she decided to cycle to a nearby shop.
As the girl approached the junction with Fonda Meadows, she was approached by a man driving a small green car.
The man spoke to the girl and tried to grab her arm, but the girl pulled away and then cycled from the area.
The man is described as white with a tan, in his late thirties or early forties, with brown, collar length wavy hair with blond highlights, and an earring in his right ear.
He was wearing a light-blue Lacoste top with two buttons, light black jeans and a grey watch.
The car was a four-door model, possibly lime green, with a dent in the rear offside and scratches on the back near to the roof.
Det Insp Nick Glister said: “Incidents of this nature are extremely rare and I would like to reassure local residents that we have a team of detectives investigating and I urge anyone with information to come forward and speak to us. The local neighbourhood team will be carrying out patrols and if anyone has any concerns I would urge them to approach their local officers and discuss these with them.”
