A mum and her 18-month-old baby have escaped a fire, started deliberately at their home in Lavendon.

The fire was started on Saturday 23 November at around 12:30pm in the door of the property in The Glebe.

The blaze spread quickly into the hallway, burning the door and curtain.

The 21-year-old mother and her 18-month-old son who were inside at the time, managed to escape. Neighbours also helped in putting out the flames.

'Fire could have been fatal'

Thames Valley Police Investigating Officer Detective Constable Alan Purkiss said: "This is a very serious incident which could have been fatal had the victim gone to bed.

"I am appealing for anyone in the area that knows anything about this fire to come forward and speak to me or call Crimestoppers anonymously."

Police have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He's been released on police bail until January 8.
