A clean-up's been taking place after 32 tonnes of rotten fruit and veg was spilt on a major A-road, leading to its complete closure.

It happened on the A421 at Whaddon, just outside Milton Keynes, at 8.15pm on Wednesday 13 July 2011.  The road linking Milton Keynes and Buckingham was completely closed for more than 15 hours as a result.

The spillage caused a bad smell in the area.  Street cleaning vans were seen going up and down the stretch between Warren Road and Shucklow Hill on Thursday morning.

It's not clear where and why the rotten fruit and veg was being transported.
