A 76-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man have died after a crash on a A47 near Dereham in Norfolk

The head-on crash happened on the A47 at around 2:35pm between Little Fransham and Dereham, close to the Wendling turn off, when a grey Vauxhall Astra heading towards Norwich was in collision with a silver VW Polo going in the opposite direction.

The road closed for several hours whilst police, fire and ambulance crews freed and treated the people involved.  The air ambulance was also called to the scene.

Sadly the female passenger of the Astra, a woman aged 76, died at the scene, whilst the driver, a 77 year old man died later in hospital.  Both are believed to be from the Leicester area.  The 69 year old woman driver of the Polo, believed to be from the Norwich area, remains seriously ill in hospital with injuries including two broken legs, a broken right arm, broken pelvis and internal bleeding.
