Gorleston: Parade for local Paralympian

Paralympic gold medalist, Jessica-Jane Applegate, will be welcomed home with a civic reception on saturday.

The 200m freestyle swimmer was given a civic good luck send off ahead of the games and will show off her medal during a parade through Great Yarmouth on Saturday (September 15).

It will start at the Town Hall at 9.55am on the land train, heading along Nottingham Way, St Peters Road, Deneside, King Street, through the Market Place. Just after 10am, the route will continue down The Conge, then back to Town Hall for a civic reception and balcony appearance around 10.30am.

Colleen Walker, Mayor of Great Yarmouth, who is to host the reception, said:

“Jessica-Jane is a local girl and the Borough Council is really keen to show her just how proud we, and Great Yarmouth’s residents, are of her achievement.

“Most, if not all of the town watched the race and it would be fantastic if we can get as many people as possible to come out on the Saturday morning and show her what her gold medal win means to Great Yarmouth and to Norfolk.”
