Lowestoft: Aggravated Burglary

Two women have been taken to hospital, one with life threatening injuries, after a burglary at a housein Cambridge Road in Lowestoft in the early hours of this morning, Monday 27th August.

Police were called at 2.40am this morning by a member of the public who heard shouting coming from the property. 

Officers immediately attended and found the two women - a 28-year-old and a 47-year-old - with head injuries. 

From initial accounts it appears two people forced their way into the home and assaulted the women before stealing cash, jewellery and a handbag from the premises. 

Both women were taken to the James Paget hospital at Gorleston but the 47-year-old has been transferred to Addenbrookes hospital, with what have been described as life threatening injuries, including a fractured skull. 

The 28-year-old is receiving treatment for a gash to her head and a broken arm at the James Paget. 

Police have cordoned off the area in Cambridge Road and initial searches have been made. 

The scene will be subject to further forensic examination is due course. 

Officers are carrying out active enquiries to trace those involved but are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area in the early hours, or anyone with information about those responsible, to contact Lowestoft CID on 101.
