A man has got to have surgery to his ear and treatment for burns after being seriously assaulted in Norwich.

The 32-year-old tried to intervene in an argument between a man and a teenager after 3am this morning on Larkman Lane close to the Aldi store.

He was punched and kicked to the ground and suffered a serious cut to his ear, burns and bruises.  He's expected to have surgery for his injuries later today.

Detective Sergeant Tom Smith, from Norwich CID, said: "We are treating this as an isolated incident and are following several lines of enquiry, including whether the victim was known to his attackers.

"The victim remains in hospital in a stable condition and will undergo surgery later today for the injury to his ear.

"I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information concerning those involved to contact police immediately."
