Surlingham: Man Dies After Car Goes In River

Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident which saw a man die after the car he was driving entered a river yesterday evening at Surlingham, near Norwich.

Officers were called at 5.21pm to the river bank near to Ferry Road after reports of a vehicle, a green Nissan Micra, entering the river.

Emergency services including the fire service and ambulance attended the scene.

The vehicle was located at just after 7.15pm. The body of the male was found inside the vehicle and was recovered.

It is not thought anyone else was in the vehicle at the time of the incident and no-one else was hurt.

Enquiries into establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident continue but, at this time, there are not thought there are any suspicious circumstances.

Police are now in the process of trying to confirm the identify the body of the man and informing the next of kin.
