Paratrooper dies after serious attack

A paratrooper left seriously injured after he was attacked on a night out died in hospital yesterday (Saturday February 12th).

Rory McWilliams, 20, from Northampton, was assaulted in the early hours of last Sunday behind Domino's Pizza in St Peters Way Car Park, Northampton.

The 20-year-old was reportedly celebrating his final weekend at home last Saturday before his first tour of Afghanistan.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he died this afternoon, Northamptonshire Police said.

Two people were arrested over the incident and have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Kinchin today urged anyone with any information, including anyone who may have helped Mr McWilliams after the attack, to contact police or Crimestoppers.

After the attack, Mr McWilliams' brother Royal Marine Matthew McWilliams, who was with him on the night, urged witnesses to come forward.
