Pensioner left "shaken" after attack

Police in Northampton are appealing for witnesses after a 74-year-old man was assaulted in the early hours of New Years Day.

The man was walking along Broadmead Avenue, Abington, when he was approached from behind and assaulted.
 
As a result of the incident the victim received hospital treatment for facial injuries and was left shaken by what happened.
 
The incident took place at around 1.30am on Saturday, 1 January, near to the Broadmead pub.

A 23-year-old man has today been arrested in connection with the assault and is currently being interviewed at Campbell Square Police Station.
