Police were called to Corby Boating Lake in Cottingham Road at 9.45am yesterday (Monday March 28th), after two suspicious packages were discovered in the lake.

Detective Inspector Mark Pattison, from Corby CID, said: “Calls reporting suspicious packages are always dealt with extremely seriously and as a precautionary measure we called in the RAF bomb disposal experts.

“However, following investigations between the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) and officers from Special Branch, we would like to reassure the public that there are no explosive components within these packages.

“CTU are no longer involved in this investigation as we are not treating this as a terrorist related incident.

“The case is being managed locally by Corby CID who are exploring a number of non-suspicious explanations for the existence of these packages in the boating lake.”
