Three people have been charged with drink driving after officers took part in a traffic operation in Rushden and Higham Ferrers last weekend.

Officers from the East Northants South Safer Community Team took part in the operation on Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning, stopping 15 vehicles that were acting suspiciously.

Throughout the operation the officers took part in high visibility patrols in the town centre of Rushden and Higham Ferrers High Street.

The three people who were arrested for drink driving were all local men, aged, 19, 34 and 65, and have all been charged.

PC Stewart Wilson, from the East Northants South Safer Community Team, said: “This was the second such operation we have organised in Rushden and Higham Ferrers in recent weeks and in total have arrested five people.

“As a Force we are committed to tackling drink driving and take the offence very seriously.

“Hopefully these operations will remind people that they should stop and think before getting behind the wheel and make other travel arrangements if they have had a drink.”
