A 19-year-old woman is still in a critical condition in hospital following an incident at a Northampton nightclub where a university student was killed in a crush.

Nabila Nanfuka, 22, of Neasden, north-west London, died after the incident at the Lava and Ignite club in Northampton town centre in the early hours of Wednesday.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out but police are awaiting further test results, a Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said.

Two other women are still in hospital. A 19-year-old woman from London is in a critical condition in hospital in Leicester, while a 21-year-old, also from London, is now conscious and her condition is said to be improving at Northampton General Hospital, the police spokeswoman said.

Northampton Borough Council has temporarily suspended the nightclub's licence while an investigation is carried out after police told its licensing committee that they believe staff had lost control of the premises.

An eye-witness has said there was a `stampede' as revellers rushed for the nightclub exit.

Officers are calling for more witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information can contact them on 0800 096 0095 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
