Police are investigating claims a 14 year old girl was raped in Cullercoats.
At 12:40am on Saturday, August 16th, officers came across a 14-year-old girl in a distressed state near to the Queen's Head pub in Cullercoats.
She was spoken to and told officers she had been raped. She was checked over by ambulance staff and given support by specialist officers.
Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and police are appealing for the public's help.
DCI John Douglas said:
"This is a very concerning incident and we are doing all we can to identify what exactly has happened.
Our enquiries have revealed that the young girl was in Trewitt Road in Whitley Bay at 10.41pm on Friday night. She was then found by officers at 12:40am near to the Queen's Head pub in Cullercoats.
Between being in Trewitt Road and being found by officers in Cullercoats, she has been approached by two men, described as both being bald, and was raped in a rear lane somewhere between the two locations.
The girl was wearing a dark coloured hooded jumper, black leggings and Nike trainers.
We need to speak to anyone who was in those areas between those times and who saw the girl, or anyone who has any information that could help us, as soon as possible.
I'd also ask anyone who lives in the areas around Trewitt Road, Whitley Bay, and Front Street, Cullercoats, and who has private CCTV cameras to check them and see if anything has been captured that could be of use to police. Contact us straight away on 101 if you think you can help.
We have dedicated teams of officers who are specially trained to support victims of rape and enquiries are ongoing into this incident."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 1418 150814.
