Mersey Tunnel Tolls could rise again

Councillor says there will be a further increase to cross Mersey

Currently car drivers pay £1.50 to pass each way through the Birkenhead and Wallasey tunnels but this could be rising again in April.

Wirral Conservative councillor Chris Blakeley who is part of the Merseytravel board, has posted on his blog that the Authorised Toll charge for cars looks set to rise to £1.70.

The toll charge rises each year with inflation and currently the authorised toll charge is £1.60, but this is discounted by 10p.

Merseytravel won't comment on whether the toll will be rising or whether they will be discounting the charge again.  They've told Heart that they will be making a decision at their meeting in February 2012.
