Police hunt driver after life-threatening crash

Police are searching for the driver of a car who fled the scene of an accident that left two men seriously injured in Farnworth.

At around 8:35pm on Sunday 1 October 2017 police were called to Plodder Lane, close to the junction with Harper Green Road, to reports of a collision involving a Vauxhall Astra and a Skoda Octavia.

Officers attended and further enquiries established that the two had collided at the traffic light intersection, causing both cars to spin along the carriageway before coming to rest further along Plodder Lane.

Two men who were travelling in the Skoda were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The 56-year-old driver suffered head injuries which are not believed to be life threatening however the passenger, aged 32, suffered serious internal injuries which are described as life threatening.

The driver of the Astra fled the scene before police attendance.

Police Constable Neil Pennington of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This collision has left two men requiring hospital treatment, one of whom remains in a life threatening condition.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, particularly if they have dash cam footage showing what happened or the immediate aftermath.
