General Motors tell Heart they're taking the step to make working more efficient.
More than two thousand members of staff will work the same number of hours, just in one one fewer day, to improve the efficiency at the Cheshire site.
General Motors have also told Heart that they'll use the extra free day to start 'tooling' the Ellesmere Port factory ready for the start of production of the next generation Astra model.
The move comes just weeks after staff were given an extra weeks paid holiday as the company tried to avoid stockpiling cars during a drop in sales across Europe.
